Empowering Individual Potential through Personalised, Flexible Learning

Lucerne International School is a modern international high school located in Business Village D4, Root, in the Canton of Lucerne, Switzerland. Since opening our doors in August 2021 with just 8 students, we have now expanded to around 50 students across grades 10, 11, and 12. Our school offers a personalised and flexible high school education, blending face-to-face and online learning to create a unique academic experience.

Founded by Kamran Baig and John Häggström, Lucerne International School was built on the belief in personalised education. Kamran, a highly experienced academic with nearly 30 years in international education, and John, an entrepreneur and a parent passionate about creating an innovative learning environment, have worked together to develop a school that nurtures the individual talents of every student.

We follow the British curriculum and are accredited by Pearson Edexcel, AQA, and OxfordAQA. Our students work towards achieving International GCSEs and A Levels, which are internationally recognised qualifications, providing clear pathways to universities in Switzerland and around the world.

Our Educational Approach

At Lucerne International School, we have reimagined education through our blended learning programme, which combines the benefits of both in-person teaching and asynchronous online learning. This approach ensures each student receives a personalised education that suits their learning style and academic needs.

Students attend daily classes from Monday to Friday. Our blended learning allows flexibility in the learning experience, where students can work at their own pace while still receiving face-to-face guidance and support.

This structure provides the balance and flexibility many students need, especially those with extracurricular commitments like sports or the arts.

Transforming Education with Vision, Technology, and Personalised Learning

Kamran Baig has been a dedicated international educator for nearly 30 years, serving as a teacher, department head, principal, and school director in schools across Japan, the UK, and Switzerland. He believes deeply in the power of education to transform lives and is passionate about using technology to create personalised learning pathways for every student.

Kamran has played numerous roles in international education, including that of a school inspector and teacher trainer. His educational philosophy is rooted in the belief that each child is unique, and education should be tailored to help students reach their full potential in a modern, evolving world. Below, Kamran shares his guiding philosophy:

"We believe that education should be for the future of our younger generations and not based on the past."

“Education begins with belief. Belief in the inherent goodness of all children. Belief that each and every child has the right to be happy and successful, whatever form that this takes. Belief that children are born as natural inquirers learning constantly through exploring their worlds. Belief that there can be no higher calling than devoting oneself to protecting and nurturing the hearts and minds of society’s young.

As the world faces the challenges of a technologically intertwined economy that is rapidly transforming the ways in which we interact, it is essential that education innovates to meet these new conditions. The “digital-natives” in our classrooms are exposed to technologies that existed only in science-fiction during our own schooling. We must not educate them towards our past but educate them for their own futures. Most of the careers that they will follow are yet to be carved out by the cutting edge of technology.

The experience that students have as adolescents lays the foundation for their lives as adults. Academic development will only take place when students feel safe in their environment. I place a huge importance on their social and emotional well-being as without this they will not have the security to learn. The future is here, and technology now allows us to create personalised learning pathways to allow each and every student to go to their full potential. This is the mission of the International School of Personalised Learning.”
