Personalised Learning

The Benefits of Personalised Education

Personalised learning puts each student’s unique needs at the centre, creating an educational experience tailored just for them.

Why does this approach work?

Not all students learn the same way or at the same pace. Personalised learning allows students to progress through the curriculum at a pace that suits them, leading to a deeper understanding. Teachers act as mentors, guiding their progress, addressing needs, and providing regular feedback to both students and parents, so you’re always aware of how your child is doing.

It’s not just about screen time. Personalised learning combines online tools with interactive, hands-on learning through one-on-one sessions, small groups, and project-based activities, ensuring a well-rounded education.

Personalised learning has the following advantages:

  • Flexibility: Students can balance their studies with commitments such as sports, arts, or other special talents. Learning is not restricted to traditional timetables, allowing flexibility around family travel plans and other priorities.
  • Later Start Times: Our day begins later in the morning, in line with teenage sleep patterns, which has been shown to boost academic performance.
  • Tailored Plans: Each student follows a customised plan, designed to meet their individual needs, supported by one-on-one and small group tuition from subject specialists.
  • Holistic Support: In-house experts provide academic, personal, social, and emotional guidance, ensuring well-rounded development.
  • Skills for Life: Beyond academics, students learn essential skills such as study techniques, self-reflection, and communication, preparing them for future challenges.
  • College Guidance: We offer dedicated support for college applications, ensuring smooth entry into further education.
  • Empowering Independence: Personalised learning empowers students to take control of their education. Through goal-setting, self-assessment, and self-advocacy, students build motivation, responsibility, and confidence in expressing their needs.

Our approach to personalised learning

How does this work at Lucerne International School

In traditional classrooms, all students are taught the same way, regardless of their individual learning styles. Some students grasp topics quickly, while others need more time. Our personalised approach ensures that every student receives the right level of support, tailored to their needs.

Your child follows a set timetable, just like in a regular school, but with a personalised approach. They work with subject specialists, engage in collaborative projects, and receive one-on-one or small group instruction. This approach encourages communication and helps develop confidence and deeper understanding.

The Role of the Teachers

Our teachers are mentors, facilitators, and coaches. Each teacher is a subject expert who guides students through their personalised learning journey, helping them achieve the best results.

With our approach, education fits around your child’s needs, supported by a team of qualified staff and subject specialists. No student gets left behind.

The Role of the Student

In our education model, the learning experience is designed to fit around you. Each student receives a unique programme of study, tailored to their needs and supported by qualified staff and subject specialists. With personalised guidance, you’ll never feel lost in class again!

The Role of Parents

Parents are key partners in their child’s success. From the start, we provide guidance and continuous feedback. You will be invited to regular face-to-face meetings and parent community events to keep you involved.

How Our Approach Works

Students follow the same curriculum and take the same exams as other international schools. However, instead of a one-size-fits-all method, each student follows an individual learning pathway.

At the beginning of each course, a teacher is assigned to work closely with the student and parents. Together, they set goals and create a personalised learning plan leading to exams, which can be scheduled for Spring or Summer based on the student’s needs.

Learning materials are provided by our experienced partners, and students follow a structured timetable just like in a traditional school. Even when families travel, learning can continue, as the school year is flexible.

Continuous Support

Throughout the programme, students are monitored and supported by subject specialists who address any issues immediately. Progress is continuously tracked, so students and parents always know how well the student is advancing.

Subjects

For IGCSE, English Language, Mathematics, and the first level of the Project Qualification are compulsory. Additional subjects are chosen based on the student’s interests and future goals.

How Many Subjects?

Students typically take 5 to 10 IGCSE subjects, with 2 to 4 Advanced-level subjects alongside the Project Qualification.

What Are the Outcomes?

Students receive the same qualifications as those in traditional schools. However, our personalised approach often leads to higher success rates and better results.
